Psychotherapy

People seek counseling because they are in some kind of pain or discomfort. They may be depressed or anxious or they may be unhappy or unsatisfied in the important relationships in their lives. Sometimes a relationship's failure brings them to want to find out what stands in the way of their having successful relationships and to learn how to create them.

Psychotherapy is the growth process in which client and therapist create a relationship of sufficient safety and trust that the client can explore and come to know him/herself fully. Masks, worn since childhood, can be removed and the soul revealed. In an environment of confidentiality, honesty, respect, and trust, new perspectives and possibilities can be examined and new ways of being in the world become possible. Your authentic self emerges.

Some of the patterns of behavior and thought learned in childhood for protection from psychological pain or from injury and danger continue as reflexes in adulthood even though they are no longer needed and may interfere with accomplishments, relationships, and the ability to enjoy life fully. Therapy creates a wider range of  available options for behaviors and, by separating past from present, allows for spontaneity and aliveness.
